Laura's composition

This is my sonnet--I'm sorry it's depressing. But I hope you can find my rhetorical devices.

My love, my love, why have you departed me?

My heart cannot understand without your love

I always devoted to all your needs

Now the hawk, no longer am I the dove

I can no longer see affection

Affection can no longer be felt

Love is not even a recollection

Your embrace and love were where I once dwelt

Your adulation and adoration

Granted to me life and security

Your antipathy and your aversion

Have forced upon me dark obscurity

What shall I do now? Where shall I go?

Go find love again? I cannot do so.

  1. We had fun discussing this sad sonnet when you read it in class! Will you write a companion piece that celebrates successful requited love? A poem for your Beloved would make a lovely lasting wedding gift for him.
